About Us

Peace and Development Coalition (PDC) is a dynamic non-governmental, non-profit, and non-partisan organization established in May 2018. Headquartered in Baidoa, Somalia, with an operational presence in Mogadishu, PDC was founded to respond to the pressing needs of communities affected by conflict, poverty, and systemic inequality. Its creation was driven by a vision of a peaceful, inclusive, and resilient society, where development is sustainable, and all individuals have the opportunity to thrive.

The organization focuses on fostering peace, sustainable development, and social justice through community-driven programs and initiatives. Over the years, PDC has earned a reputation for being a grassroots-oriented organization that addresses critical challenges such as conflict resolution, human rights advocacy, and the empowerment of marginalized communities, particularly women and youth.

PDC operates under the belief that sustainable development and peace are interlinked. By addressing the root causes of conflict and poverty, it creates pathways for lasting stability and progress. Its programs range from providing emergency humanitarian assistance to facilitating vocational training for economic empowerment. The organization has been instrumental in empowering communities to rebuild their lives, strengthen local governance, and foster a culture of resilience against future challenges.

Through peacebuilding initiatives, PDC encourages inter-community dialogue and conflict mediation, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation. It works closely with local communities, governments, and international stakeholders to implement projects that are sustainable and tailored to the specific needs of the regions it serves. Additionally, PDC places a strong emphasis on education, healthcare, and livelihood development, which are critical components of long-term peace and prosperity.

PDC’s programs reflect its commitment to addressing harmful cultural practices, such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV), by promoting education, advocacy, and legal protections for women and girls. In addition, the organization champions efforts to improve food security, healthcare access, and nutrition, particularly for children and mothers.

Since its inception, PDCol has worked to bridge the gap between humanitarian aid and development, emphasizing the importance of building capacities within communities. It prioritizes local ownership of its projects, ensuring that the communities are at the heart of decision-making and implementation.

With an expanding portfolio of initiatives and strategic partnerships, PDCol is poised to extend its impact not only across Somalia but also globally. Its work demonstrates that peacebuilding and sustainable development are achievable goals when communities, civil society, and stakeholders unite for a common purpose.
